ATTENDANCE POLICY

Casa Richard Academy expects regular attendance in every class every day.  Cooperation among parents/guardians, students and the Academy faculty is necessary to assure that students attend every class.  These procedures ensure maximum attendance and establish standards for academic success.

                        Students are expected to:

Be present daily and ready to learn.

                                    Be on time.

Attend each class according to their schedule.

                        Parents/Guardians are expected to:

Inform School Secretary of your child’s absence.

Call prior to 8:00 a.m. the day of the absence (313-963-7757).

                                    Upon return¾provide documentation when appropriate

                                                   e.g.: medical, legal, or death

                        Academy Staff is expected to:

Attempt to contact parents/guardians (by phone) any day a student is absent.

Maintain open communication with parents/guardians regarding students’ attendance pattern.

The difference between an excused or unexcused absence is that the student will be allowed to make up missed assignments, if the absence is excused.  Please be mindful that every absence will count towards their total.  It is the responsibility of the student to ask teachers for their makeup work the day immediately following their absence.  Failure of the student to ask for makeup work, or return the makeup work, will result in a zero for the missed assignment(s).  Two days will be given to make up work.  Extended time will be awarded for extended absences; suspensions are considered unexcused absences.

Any student absent more than EIGHT (8) times in a class during a quarter, will receive an F (Failure) grade for that class, and will be dropped from that class for the remainder of the quarter.  A student can appeal being dropped by requesting a hearing by the attendance committee.  The committee consists of three members (one administrator, one teacher, and one staff member).  The committee’s decision is final; students are allowed only one hearing per semester.

Any student failing THREE (3) classes in a single quarter will be dropped from enrollment at the Academy for the remainder of the quarter.  The student will be eligible to re-enroll for the next quarter.

Any student dropped from THREE (3) quarters is not eligible to re-enroll for the fourth quarter but may re-enroll for the following academic year.

TARDINESS

Students are expected to be present for every class and to be in the classroom on time.  A student who is late for class disturbs others, misses a certain amount of work, and forms a very undesirable habit of being late for appointments.

Every FOURTH (4th) tardy for an individual class will automatically be recorded as an ABSENCE and will be INCLUDED in the student’s absence total.

Students who are tardy must go to the School office to receive a tardy pass, which must be given to their teacher before the student is admitted to class.
